We are filled with joy as we welcome three more postulants to Mount Angel Abbey. For the last 80 years the monks of Mount Angel have knelt down each evening after their meal to pray the Litany of St. Joseph for vocations to our monastery. This year we are blessed with eight postulants; Br. Keegan Porter, 24 years old from San Diego, CA; Br. Dusty Osborne, 22 years old from Lewiston, ID; Br. Christopher Walch, 29 years old from Medford, OR; Br. Chase Shepard, 22 years old from Selah, WA; Br. Emmanuel Orozco, 27 years old from Santa Maria, CA; Br. Jesús Sanchez, 22 years old from Yuma, AZ; Br. George Wolcott, 19 years old from Moscow, ID; and Br. Michael Garza, 25 years old from Corinth, TX.
The first five of these men arrived in March of this year; the second group arrived June 15th. These men will spend the time in the postulancy in familiarizing themselves with the monastic way of life at Mount Angel Abbey and discerning whether this is God’s call for their life. If they persevere in their resolve they will enter the novitiate on September 7th of this year and make simple vows as monks after a year in the novitiate. (See more photos)
God is faithful. Mount Angel has consistently received new members to the community over the years, but this is the largest group to enter in our history. One has to wonder what plans the Lord has in mind for the monks of Mount Angel Abbey. Thank for your continued support and prayers for vocations.
We give thanks to God. What do you think is happening? Please comment on how you see the future for the monks of Mount Angel Abbey.
Fr. Odo Recker, O.S.B.
Vocations Director/Novice Master
